CatGate Privacy Policy
CatGate — Pet to Unlock
Last updated: 2026-07-09
1. What We Do NOT Collect
CatGate is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, or phone number
- Your social media credentials or account details
- The content of your social media feeds, messages, or posts
- Your precise location or IP address
- Your device identifier (IDFA/IDFV are never accessed)
- Any data from the apps you choose to gate with CatGate
2. What We Collect
To provide the core service and improve app stability, we collect only the following limited data:
- Anonymous App Instance UUID — A randomly generated identifier created on first launch. This ID is not linked to your Apple ID, device, or any personal information. It is regenerated if you delete and reinstall the app.
- Anonymous Usage Events — Basic interaction events such as "cat petted," "app gated," and "session started." These events contain no personal data and are associated only with the anonymous instance UUID.
- Crash Reports — Technical diagnostic data when the app encounters an error, including stack traces and device model information. These reports are anonymized (sendDefaultPii is set to false).
3. Data Storage & Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to process the limited data described above:
| Service | Purpose | Data Location |
| Mixpanel | Anonymous usage analytics | EU (European Union) |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | United States |
| Sentry | Crash reporting (sendDefaultPii=false) | United States |
All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties beyond those listed above for their stated purposes.
4. Family Controls Permissions
CatGate uses Apple's Family Controls framework (also known as Screen Time API) to detect when you open a selected social media app and display a cat petting interaction before you can proceed. Here is how these permissions work:
- CatGate requests Family Controls authorization from iOS. This is the same permission system used by Screen Time and parental control apps.
- You select which apps you want CatGate to gate. CatGate only monitors the apps you explicitly choose.
- CatGate does not read, record, or transmit any information about your app usage, screen time, or browsing activity.
- The cat petting screen is rendered locally on your device. No data about which apps triggered the gate is sent off-device.
- You can revoke Family Controls permission at any time via Settings → Screen Time → CatGate.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your data:
- Right to Access — You may request a copy of the anonymous data associated with your app instance UUID.
- Right to Deletion — You may request deletion of your data. Additionally, deleting the CatGate app from your device automatically clears all local data.
- Right to Opt-Out — You may disable analytics tracking at any time through the app's settings. Crash reporting can also be disabled.
These rights are provided under applicable data protection laws including the GDPR (EU/EEA), CCPA (California, USA), and Taiwan Personal Data Protection Act (臺灣個人資料保護法). To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below.
6. Data Retention
- Usage Events (Mixpanel) — Retained for up to 24 months from the date of collection.
- Crash Reports (Sentry) — Retained for 90 days from the date of collection.
- Local Data — All data stored locally on your device (including your gated app list and settings) is permanently deleted when you delete the CatGate app.
- Subscription Records (RevenueCat) — Retained as required for billing, accounting, and legal compliance.
